An elderly person living alone may become a victim of hypothermia because she has run out of fuel during winter.
- Call an ambulance, as it is imperative to get her to the hospital quickly.
- Wrap her in a blanket
- If she is conscious, give her a hot tea.
- Do not massage the victim's limbs or suggest that she takes exercise. This will only take blood away from the body's vital organs.
- If the ambulance is delayed, a companion can lie under the blanket with the victim.
